The venue was created by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, he was responsible for the iconic white silhouette, while the interiors were finished off by a team of local architects, after Utzon's resignation in 1966. The Opera House is a world-class performing arts center and became a cultural icon of both Sydney and the Australian nation. Sydney Opera is recognised globally as the finest building of the 20th Century even though until this day it remains incomplete. The Opera House was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in 1973, ten years after the original completion date.
